KANCHANPUR, Feb 18: The counting of birds will begin through the 'Chhimeki Chara' app in 66 districts including Kanchanpur from February 19.

Bird Conservation Nepal is set to carry out the counting of birds through an app for the first time in Nepal. Ornithologist Hirulal Dagaura said that the organization is mobilizing volunteers to count the birds through the app.

"The volunteers will download the 'Chhimeki Chara' app on their mobile phones, take photos of the birds found near the houses, schools, streets and parks and upload them in the app for archiving," he shared.

Dagaura added that the provinces, districts and local governments have been categorized in the app and the volunteers would upload the photos of birds with their species from their location. The counting of birds will be conducted through volunteers for half-an-hour on February 19 in the first phase, he said.

After analyzing the results of bird counting of the first phase, it will be decided in which months the counting of birds will be done in the second phase, Dagaura mentioned, adding that the result of the counting of birds will be published in the local media and website of Birdlife Nepal.

More than 1,000 volunteers would be mobilized for the same. The main aim of the app is to show the importance of birds and to make people aware about bird conservation. The app has a list of birds found across the nation.
