BIRATNAGAR, July 17: Tension gripped Biratnagar on Friday after a Joint Students´ Struggle Committee vandalized vehicles parked on the roadside. Transport workers also retaliated by placing trucks on the road from Bhrikuti Chowk to Munalpath and demanding compensation for their vehicles, the police said.

The committee did not allow vehicular movement since the morning.

There was clash between the transport workers, the police and the agitating students after the latter vandalized vehicles. They also broke the windshield of a police van at Munal Path.

The student unions have called an indefinite transport strike in Biratnagar demanding compensation to the family of Narvada Chaudhary´s family.

Chaudhary, an IA first year student at Mahendra Morang Multiple Campus, died after being hit by a truck in Bhattimod on Sunday. The student unions have accused the truck driver of putting the truck on reverse gear and intentionally running over her after she was hit.
