PATHARI (Morang), July 25: The Biratnagar Sub Metropolitan City has scrapped the five-year contract with the Waste Management Pvt JV Group.
The Sub Metropolitan City responded to a letter received from Ministry of Local Development with an instruction to cancel the contract with the Group citing the tender process did not follow legal procedures.
Sub Metropolitan City's Environment Department Engineer, Dhashyam Kafle, confirmed the cancellation of the contract and added a new tender process would be launched soon.
The Group has been asked to continue to manage the waste products of Biratnagar for the next three months until a new bidding process starts and a new company is selected, Kafle shared.
The Ministry has stated in its letter that the process of publication of the notice with a proposal for technical and economic support in transporting, dumping and management of waste products did not tally with existing regulations and that JV Group was selected although it applied for the job after the deadline passed.
Bal Ram Chalise had filed a complaint with the Ministry citing his dissatisfaction with the selection process.
The Ministry in response to the applicant's complaint issued the instruction to Biratnagar Sub Metropolitan City Office to scrap the contract. Meanwhile, the JV Group has vowed to knock on the court's door for justice. RSS
