Trump falsely says the election is rigged

KATHMANDU, Nov 6: Joseph Biden Jr., 77, is on the brink of defeating Donald Trump and becoming the 46th president of the United States of America. He will be the oldest person to be elected president of the United States. With 73. 5 million votes and counting, Joe Biden has received the highest votes by any presidential candidate in history. The US news networks say Joe Biden is currently leading Trump in Georgia and Arizona, both reliably Republican states; and also in Nevada and on the brink of taking over Trump in Pennsylvania.

A candidate needs 270 electoral votes to win the presidency. Biden currently has 253 votes and Trump has 213. If Biden wins Pennsylvania, he will have 273 electoral votes, enough to win the presidency. Georgia has 16, Pennsylvania has 20, Arizona has 11, Nevada has 6 electoral votes. Biden is likely to win Georgia, Pennsylvania and also Nevada. Some news networks, including the Associated Press (AP), have called Arizona for Biden.

Democratic party insiders say Biden is almost certainly going to win Pennsylvania. As the presidency slips away from Trump, he has attacked the voting system, vote counting process and has falsely accused of corruption and rigged election. He came out to speak at the White House yesterday and falsely claimed that he has in fact won the presidency. Some TV news networks, including CNBC and MSNBC, cut away from his live press conference, saying that he was spewing falsehoods like anything. The Trump campaign has filed a number of lawsuits in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia and in other states. However, legal experts say those lawsuits have little ground.

Pre-election polling suggested a blowout by Biden. But that did not happen. The Democrats were also poised to win the control of the Senate, but both Democrats and Republicans have 48 seats each and two seats in Georgia will go for run-off in January. The outcome of that election in Georgia will determine which party will control the Senate. The Senate has 100 seats and the vice president breaks a tie there. The Democrats also lost a few seats in the House of Representatives. While they retained control of the House, they were hoping to expand their majority. If Biden wins the presidency, how much he can accomplish largely depends on the Senate. That is why the balance of power in the Senate is so important.
