KATHMANDU, Feb 17: The health of Nepali Congress (NC) founding leader and former prime minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai is improving but is still critical.

“His overall condition is slightly better than Wednesday but is still critical because of his multiple problems and age,” said Executive Director and Consultant Cardiologist at the Norvic International Hospital Dr Bharat Rawat, who is involved in the treatment of the octogenarian leader.[break]

“He is conscious and speaks. The next 48 hours remain important,” Dr Rawat added. Bhattarai was shifted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of the hospital Wednesday afternoon after he experienced breathing complications and was running a fever. “We monitored him closely overnight. His reports are better today,” he revealed.

Bhattarai was admitted a week ago following abnormal blood reports. He has longstanding heart, kidney and lungs problems.
