Bham’s Shambhala selected for Berlin Film Festival

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: The film 'Shambhala' directed by Min Bahadur Bham has been selected for the international competition category of the Berlin Film Festival. 'Shambhala' is the first Nepali feature film to be selected in this category of the festival.

This was informed at a press conference held in Lalitpur on Monday. The announcement of the lineup of the Berlin Film Festival was shown live in the program and the poster of the film was also released. Bham's first film 'Kalopothi' was nominated for the Oscar Award from Nepal and was premiered at the Venice Film Festival.

The film presents the story of a pregnant woman in a high Himalayan village who goes in search of her husband with her brother-in-law after her husband leaves her. The film is jointly written by Bham and Avinash Bikram Shah.

Produced under the banner of Shooney Films Pvt Ltd, 'Shambhala' has Thinley Lhamo, Sonam Topden, Tenzing Dalha and others in lead roles. It is said that the budget of this film, which was shot in Dolpa, is around Rs 140 million.
