KATHMANDU, Dec 12: A dairy industry in Bhaktapur has been fined Rs 300,000 for not labeling milk products, violating the Consumer Protection Act.

The Department of Commerce, Supplies, and Consumer Protection (DoCSCP) monitoring team uncovered the industry's practice of repackaging old milk without proper labeling. The DoCSCP monitoring team found that the dairy industry in question was repackaging the old milk and sending it to the market.

According to the Consumer Protection Act, milk, an essential beverage, must be labeled with the quantity and quality of products, consumables including expiry rates. But the dairy industry was found not following that rule, according to the DoCSCP. The unlabelled milk, ready for market supply, was subsequently destroyed as per regulations.
