KATHMANDU, Nov 18: Bhajan Shiromani Bhakta Raj Acharya’s journey in music is not just a success story; it is equally tragic and heart-rending. The music master, who has lent his power-packed voice to dozens of soulful bhajans and has equally recorded some of the beautiful musical numbers of all time, is certainly of living a legendary life that the entire Nepali music industry and the music aficionados of Nepal are proud of. Acharya’s life never was a bed of roses. Having struggled hard to get himself an honorable place in Nepali music scene, he came across a tragic incident that changed his life forever. The great loss of the great voice is missed ever since then.

Now his sons, Satya Raj Acharya and Swaroop Raj Acharya who loyally followed their father’s footsteps and have established themselves as promising singers are geared up to bring the real life story of their father into reel-life.

Speaking to journalists at a press conference held at Vintage Café and Pub in Durbar Marg last Sunday, Satya-Swaroop made it official that “Acharya”, a real-life story of their father will soon be screened. Being directed by Prashant Rasaily and produced by Roshan Rai with Satya Swaroop, the movie will uncover the entire journey of a musical genius.

“It’ll disclose a true story of his determination, struggles and perpetual courage. The movie will be a journey that promises to turn back the pages of history to tell an untold story of a son, a father and a legend,” younger son of Acharya, Swaroop Raj, highlighted and added, “It will further make it clear how he had to struggle in every step of his life. How he struggled day and night to fuel that undying passion of singing. Unfortunately, as fate had it, this passion that defined his very existence was cut short in a tragic incident that changed the sole purpose, course and meaning of his life.”

This movie will be filmed in various locations of India and Nepal. The cast and crew will also be selected, considering the importance of characters. Elder son Satya Raj Acharya is finalized to play the lead role. As per the production team, the shooting will begin this December and they plan to wrap it off by the end of January 2010. The movie is slated to release in mid-April or the first week of May in 2010.

The whole idea of filming Bhakta Raj Acharya’s real life on celluloid was broached by the upcoming director Prashant Rasaily. He has attempted to break the established threshold with his directorial debut in “Acharya.” He has already assisted Bollywood’s promising director Anurag Basu in “Kites” which featured Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori. Furthermore, he has co-produced and written the screenplay for Kollywood’s “Kagbeni.”

Rasaily had approached the Acharya brothers long ago with his idea, and since then they have had been working together to make the concept happen.

“We always believed in the determination Rasaily puts into his work. We’re ready to film our father’s real life story. But the most important thing for us was to get his permission. When we talked to dad about it, he became positive and we started out with our homework immediately,” shared Swaroop. “Satya will be playing dad’s role and I’ll be working for the music arrangements and compositions.”

He further added that the entire production and direction crew is keen on getting a small role for Bhakta Raj Acharya too.

“We’re planning a brief role for dad. We might fit him in the movie to highlight his current way of living before the movie ends,” he elaborated, explaining how the entire crew is giving their best in making this a touching movie than a commercial flick.

To be shot in digital format, Swaroop said that “Acharya” will be an inspirational film to watch.

“The story will be 90 percent true to what all happened, and the rest will be the masalas (spices) required while making a movie,” he admitted and urged, “But please, don’t regard this as a commercial approach. We’re making a movie on our dad’s life. I hope people will respect our sentiments.”
