The day was a fierce battle between the then rebellion, Maoist fighters, and government security persons at Beni.
The day has been remembered today by organising a harmony rally and exhibiting pictures related to the attack. Some 100 photos taken by photojournalist from Beni, Amar Baniya, after the Beni attack, are on display.
The rally with the participation of the political leaders, rights activists, journalists and businessmen, among others went around the Beni bazaar.
At a programme organised after the rally, the participants expressed that political leaders should be aware of not repeating such carnage but steer the country to the path of peace, prosperity and development with promulgation of the new constitution.
On the occasion, a local Krishna Lal Shrestha, who lost his both legs in the carnage, expressed extreme sadness for being ignored by the State.
The programme was chaired by coordinator of the Local Peace Committee Pahal Bahadur Khatri.
A total of 17 police personnel, 14 army, 90 Maoists and 19 general people were killed in the battle where property worth Rs 170 million was destroyed. RSS
