The readymade doors, manufactured using local wood, are available in laminated form or have door-skin, imported from Turkey, attached to them.[break]
“We have come up with a range of readymade doors targeting Nepali market to lower the country´s dependence on imported furniture, including doors,” said David Basnet, managing director of the company.
Basnet said the company´s products will be available in the capital and major cities in eastern Nepal.
Local customers are increasingly switching to imported furniture--that are comparatively cheaper and attractive--due to skyrocketing prices of furniture made of Sal wood.
Prices of Sal-wood furniture are going up lately amid scarcity of the timber due to the government restriction on its logging. As a result, Nepal has been importing readymade furniture, including doors, from China, Malaysia and India to cater to the growing demand for furniture in the domestic market.
“We are making attempts to establish ourselves in the domestic readymade furniture market and manufacture other types of doors including kitchen grills,” said Basnet.
The company, set up with an investment of Rs 30 million in Gothatar of Kathmandu, claims its doors are durable and termite-proof. “We even paint the door surface as per our customers´ demand,” said Basnet.
The price of each laminated door has been fixed at Rs 8,000, while those with door skins costs Rs 6,500 per unit.
The company is planning to introduce other types of modern furniture as well.
