KATHMANDU, Feb 21: Nepal Bar Association (NBA), the umbrella organization of law practitioners in the country, has demanded the government make an appointment to the post of Chief Justice which remains vacant for a long time as soon as possible.
A delegation led by NBA President Gopal Krishna Ghimire met with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal at the prime minister’s official residence at Baluwatar today and demanded he take initiatives for the appointment of the Chief Justice (CJ) without further delay.

Ghimire said they drew the PM's attention to finalizing the appointment of the CJ soon as justice delivery has been affected as the post of CJ and other justices at the Supreme Court have remained vacant for a long time.
There is a constitutional provision for the Prime Minister to function as the chairperson of the Constitutional Council which appoints the Chief Justice and other justices to the Supreme Court. The post of CJ at the Supreme Court has remained vacant since February 13, 2022.
NBA President Ghimire, General Secretary Anjita Khanal, Bagmati Province Vice-chair Harka Rawal, senior advocate Krishna Prasad Bhandari, among others, were present in the meeting with the prime minister.
