KATHMANDU, Mar 14: Visiting Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism of Bangladesh, AKM Shahjahan Kamal, today called on Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa to discuss the US-Bangla passenger airplane fatal crash took place at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Monday.
During the meeting held at the Home Minster's office, Singha Durbar, Minister Thapa extended his profound sorrow over the loss of valuable lives in the crash involving the Bangladeshi airliner coming from Dhaka carrying 71 people including crew members. He apprised the Bangladeshi Minister who arrived here Tuesday, leading a high-level delegation to take updates about the deadly crash that the government had already formed a probe committee to look into the matter.
Stating that immediately after the unexpected accident, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and he reached the TIA to instruct authorities concerned to leave no stone unturned to guarantee timely rescue of the survivors and relief for them. "The government of Nepal has done its best for the prompt rescue and relief of the victims."
B'desh minister meets injured passengers, PM, home minister
The process of identifying bodies of the Bangladeshi nationals killed in the crash and their post-mortem examinations are underway and arrangements are in place to send the mortal remains back to home as soon as possible once such works get over, according to the Home Minister.
The Minister of Bangladesh said they were deeply saddened by the loss of precious lives in the crash and thanked the Nepal Government for its prompt response to it. He added that they had felt no lacking in the rescue efforts made by Nepal, following the crash.
As stated by him, he had earlier visited 10 Bangladeshi nationals who were on board the ill-fated aircraft at Kathmandu Medical College, Norvic International Hospital and OM Hospital where they are undergoing treatment and is satisfied over the care provided for them.
"The family of one injured from Bangladesh who is receiving treatment at OM Hospital wants to take the patient to Singapore for further treatment and orthopedics and medical specialists for burn injuries from Bangladesh wish to visit Nepal to assist treatment in those injured in the crash," the Bangladeshi Minister informed Minister Thapa, seeking his help build an atmosphere towards this end.
In response, the Home Minister said that Nepal was ready to facilitate the process if it proceeded through the Nepal-based Embassy of Bangladesh.
The two ministers agreed on facilitating the investigations into the incident from both sides and take elaborative measures so as to avoid such incident from recurring in the future.
A total of 51 people including the crew members have so far been confirmed dead in the crash occurred at 2:18 pm local time. Among them, 22 are Nepali, 28 from Bangladesh and one Chinese national. Others 20 injured in the deadly accident are receiving treatment at various hospitals in Kathmandu. RSS
