Bangladesh approves import of 40 MW of electricity from Nepal

KATHMANDU, Dec 8: The Bangladesh government has given the official nod to purchase 40 megawatts (MW) of electricity from Nepal.

The Council of Ministers of Bangladesh granted preliminary approval to the proposal for importing electricity from Nepal, as reported by Dhaka Tribune.

The pricing details for the sale of electricity by Nepal have not been disclosed at this time. This aspect will be deliberated in the upcoming meeting of the Committee on Public Procurement (CCGP) of the Cabinet.

Bangladeshi Minister of State for Energy and Mineral Resources, Nasrul Hamid had earlier expressed confidence in the likelihood of electricity imports from Nepal. Three  months ago, Hamid stated that the import of hydroelectricity from Nepal was nearing its final stages. Following extensive discussions at both political and staff levels, India has given its approval, allowing Bangladesh to import 40 MW of electricity from Nepal through Indian transmission lines.
