Banda hits normal life in eastern region

ITAHARI, March 2: The banda called by Brahman Samaj Nepal on Friday brought normal life to a complete standstill in the eastern region.



Vehicles remained off the roads in districts, including Sunsari, Morang, Jhapa, Ilam, Panchthar, Dhankuta, Taplejung and Sankhuwasabha. [break]



Protestors had gathered at several main points of the east-west highway to obstruct the vehicles. Vehicles plied on the roads only after 4pm. Similarly, schools, colleges, hospitals and the markets in the region were completely shut.



The samaj has been demanding that Brahman´s be included in the list of indigenous groups.



“We have no immediate program in the list, but we will soon come up plans to strengthen our protest,” said Vice-president of the samaj Laxmi Sangraula.
