Banda affects life in Birgunj

BIRGUNJ, June 27: An indefinite strike called by Hindu Youth Association (HYA) on Sunday after murder of its chairman Kashinath Tiwari has affected normal life in Birgunj. Transportation, educational institutes, market and industries have come to a standstill since early morning.

 

The association has demanded that the culprits be held, the deceased be declared a martyr and compensation be provided to the deceased´s family members. [break]



Tiwari, a resident of Ranighat-13, was shot dead at Ashokbatika near his residence at around 5.30 pm by a group of three motorbike-borne assailants. The identities of the shooters and the motive behind the murder are yet to be known.



Tiwari had shot into limelight after retaliating against the Maoists.



Superintendent of Police Rajendra Man Shrestha said that Parsa police have held four youths suspecting their involvement in the murder. He informed that the arrested are being interrogated.



The HYA was scheduled to hold a protest rally Sunday noon at Ghantaghar. A large number of security personnel were deployed to beef up security in the city.
