Ballot papers tearing in Bharatpur: Demand for earliest hearing

CHITWAN, July 17: Although 50 days have elapsed since the ballot papers with votes of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-19 have been torn, no any move has been made yet to decide over the issue.

CHITWAN, July 17: Although 50 days have elapsed since the ballot papers with votes of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-19 have been torn, no any move has been made yet to decide over the issue. 


The candidates contesting the mayoral post in the first phase of local level electiond on May 14 for the Bharatpur Metropolitan City are demanding the earliest outlet to the situation. The ballot papers with votes were torn at night on May 28 during the vote count.

Renu Dahal from the CPN-Maoist Centre and Devi Prasad Gyawali from CPN-UML were the closest contenders for the post whose votes were counted to be 40,908 and 41,641 before CPN-MC cadres tore the ballot papers with votes at midnight.


CPN-UML mayoral candidate Gyawali, making a brief remark, said that the hearing on the case which has reached the Supreme Court by was pending and expressed his confidence that the SC would look into the case based on its practice and international experience. 

Since the case is pending in the SC, no other newly elected people's representatives in other wards of Bhatarpur Metropolitan City have been able to take their offices. 


CPN-MC mayoral candidate Dahal opined that the sooner the verdict on the case, better it is. She said, "Hearing on the case is taking a long time. I feel like the works at the local level have been obstructed due to it." 


The Election Commission of Nepal has issued a directive for the reelection in the Bharatpur Metropolitan City-10 against which ward member candidate for Bharatpur-19 from CPN-UML Gunjan Man BK and lawyer Tulsi Pandey filed a writ petition at the SC. 


The case is under consideration at the SC. RSS
