KATHMANDU, May 28: Senior Nepali Congress (NC) leader Ram Chandra Poudel has said that independent candidate Balen Shah won in local level elections as the political parties have selected the candidate by undermining people's sentiment.

Poudel said that people have chosen an independent candidate as the candidates chosen by political parties such as NC and CPN-UML were not suitable for the post of mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

NC had fielded Srijana Singh while CPN-UML had fielded Keshav Sthapit for the post of mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Both have lost to Balen by a wide margin. “The UML has chosen an outdated candidate," Poudel said. "NC has given the ticket on the basis of dynastic politics." Singh is the spouse of Prakash Man Singh and during the ticket distribution, Poudel was apparently not in favor of fielding Singh.

Poudel said that the NC has been benefited by the alliance in the local level election and the alliance should be continued for political stability.
