BAITADI, Nov 13: Four of the nine passengers who died in a tragic bus accident Thursday night at Khodpe of Patan Municipality-9 in Baitadi district have been identified.


According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Narayan Prasad Adhikari, the deceased have been identified as Ran Bahadur Chand, 25, and Karan Singh Air of Baitadi’s Dogadakedar Rural Municipality-6; Kabindra Joshi, a staff member at Dogadakedar Rural Municipality Office and Kirtika Karki, 15, of Bhimdutta Municipality-8 in Kanchanpur district.

Of them, Chand, Joshi and Air died on the spot while Karki breathed her last while undergoing treatment at hospital. Air’s body is trapped under the bus and efforts to pull out the mutilated body has failed so far, police said.


Identity of five other deceased is yet to be established. Their mortal remains have been kept at Baitadi District Hospital.


At least 34 people were injured when a passenger bus met with the accident at Khodpe of Patan Municipality-8 in Baitadi along the Dashrath Chand Highway around 10:30 pm on Thursday. 


DSP Adhikari said that seven passengers with critical injuries were referred to Dhangadi for further treatment and  27 others are currently undergoing treatment at Dadheldhura District Hospital. The bus owner, Birendra Karki, who was driving the bus, also sustained injuries.


The bus (Na 5 Kha 5141), en route to Mahendranagar from Ganna of Darchula district, skidded some 600 meters off the road at a narrow bend.
