“The 33-party alliance has taken a political decision to sit for talks with the government,” Mani Thapa, general secretary of Revolutionary communist of Nepal, told Republica. He, however, said that the government in its invitation has not recognized the existence of the 33-party alliance.
“The government should send a fresh letter inviting all the 33 parties in the alliance,” reads the statement signed by Dev Gurung on behalf of the alliance.
The government had sent a third letter on Wednesday inviting the CPN-Maoist and “other political parties” for talks. The first two letters sent by the government had set conditions for talks.
The meeting has also mandated a taskforce of the alliance to prepare for talks. The meeting has also decided to seek annulment of the 11-point agreement between the major political parties and the 25-point ordinance on removing constitutional difficulties.
The alliance has also decided to demand dissolution of the current Khil Raj Regmi-led government to pave the way for the formation of national consensus government.
According to Thapa, the alliance will pick members of the taskforce after it receives fresh invitation from the latter.
