KATHMANDU, July 20: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, considering the heavy rainfall forecast by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, has urged everyone to stay alert and remain in safe locations.
Through social media, he mentioned that heavy rainfall is likely in various parts of the country Sunday afternoon and appealed to the public to follow the advisories issued by the security agencies to avoid weather-related disasters.
Prime Minister Oli has requested the general public to refrain from long-distance travel unless absolutely necessary and to stay in safe places. He has also instructed security personnel to remain prepared for necessary safety measures.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the monsoon trough is slightly north of its average position, resulting in a forecast of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in many parts of the hilly regions of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali Provinces.

The department further stated that some areas in these provinces may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall. Likewise, there is a chance of light to moderate rainfall and snowfall in some parts of the high-hill and Himalayan regions of the country.
Additionally, generally cloudy weather is expected across the country tonight. Light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely in many areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces, as well as in some parts of the remaining provinces.
