Complaints have been lodged against AVCO for cheating clients and failing to deliver the vehicles purchased even after taking full or partial payment. [break]
"As per a directive from the district administration office, we are trying to hunt down the owners of AVCO Hyundai, but we have not been successful yet," Ganesh Ayer, DSP at Baneshwar Metropolitan Police Circle, told Republica. However, he added that the owners are currently out of the Valley and declined to provide details.
Republica had run a report on July 2 on malpractice by the dealer. As per the initial investigations, 167 people have been cheated by the company. The advance payments made by the clients range from Rs 50,000 to Rs 700,000, and many also paid the full amount.
Meanwhile, a group of victims is lobbying together for stronger action by the district administration office. They have jointly met the officials and demanded that police try harder to catch AVCO´s owners.
"We have found that AVCO Hyundai has been engaged in such illegal activities since the past two years," a victim who did not want to be named told Republica, adding, "It is surprising that the authorities have not taken any action so far."
Confusion reigns over the whereabouts of AVCO managing director Binita Pradhan. Police sources said she is currently abroad, possibly in Singapore, but the victims have claimed that she is still in the valley.
"Even if some of the owners are abroad, police can catch senior staff of the company if they are serious about bringing about action," the victim added.
