Australia willing to invest in Nepal's energy sector

KATHMANDU, July 20: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Barshaman Pun, and Australian Ambassador to Nepal, Peter Budd, held discussion on the matters of collaboration in energy and hydropower sector. 


During the meeting held at Energy Ministry, Pun shared that he had issued a white paper for overall development of energy and hydropower sector after assuming the ministerial berth.

He further said that the government has set a target to produce electricity of 15,000 megawatt within 10 years. 

The Energy Minister sought cooperation from the Australian government to fulfill the need of further investment in the development of energy sector. Minister Pun also thanked the Australian government in acknowledgement of its support for the development of different sectors in Nepal. 


Similarly, the envoy said that the Australian government was ready to provide technical support to the Energy Ministry while expressing willingness to work for Nepal's energy sector. 


Ambassador Budd shared that an Australian company has shown willingness to establish 300 megawatt solar system in Nepal. 


On the occasion, Managing Director of Electricity Production Company under the Energy Ministry, Mohanraj Panta, and officer of Australian Development Cooperation, signed 12-point agreement for technical support.
