KATHMANDU, August 27: The August session of ‘Paleti’ began with Singer Meena Niraula singing songs of writers Bairagi Kaila and Manjul on Friday.
A press statement quoted composer Aavaas as saying, “Meena is singing songs from the writers of our generation. This symbolizes the link ‘Paleti’ has been building between generations of musicians.” The duo then went on to perform two songs from Laxmi Prasad Devkota.
Meena and Aavaas mesmerize Paleti audience
According to the press statement, Meena is originally from Manipur, India and is married in Nepal. It was through a Manipuri Nepali Singer, Santanu Kumar Limbu, that Meena was introduced to ‘Paleti’. Since then, Meena has been affiliated with ‘Paleti’ and has performed with legendary Nepali composers as well as poets like Amber Gurung, Shanti Thatal, Karma Yonzon, Ratna Shamsher Thapa, Premdhoj Pradhan and Dinesh Adhikari, among others.
However, the August ‘Paleti’ session was Meena’s first solo Paleti. Quoting Meena the statement said, “More than popularity, I am indebted to the love and blessing from musicians like Aavaas and the Paleti audience.”
Aavaas and Meena were accompanied on stage by Suraj Pradhan on guitar, Dinesh Regmi on keyboard, Buddha Lama on flute, Sundar Maharjan on percussion and Sandesh Maharjan on Tabala.
The show moved on to another phase, where artists performed on Shrawan Mukarung’s poems. The later part of the show had lighter moments and captivating songs.
