DHANKUTA, Dec 3: An attempt has been made to kill Devendra Guragain, the ward chairman of Pakhribas Municipality 6 of Dhankuta, by locking him inside his house and setting it on fire. On Sunday night, the house was set on fire while he was sleeping and was locked up from outside.
In a conversation with Republica, Ward Chairman Guragain said, “As soon as I woke up around 12:48 in the night, I found out that the house was on fire. When I tried to go out with my wife, it was not possible because of the smoke. The door was also locked from outside.”
He said that the neighbor Ambika Thapa gave him a ladder and got out of the window and saved his wife and his life.

“The incident was carried out with the intention of killing us. The reason has not been discovered and there is no information about who set the house on fire. We noticed in time and saved our lives,” he said.
Ward Chairman Guragain informed Republica that the police have started an investigation into the incident and one person has been arrested.
He also said that goods worth about Rs 300,000 inside the house were destroyed in the fire.
Chief District Officer of Dhankuta Punya Bikram Paudel said that the house of ward chairman Guragain was set on fire and both are safe now. He also said that the police are investigating the incident.
