ASOCIO Summit 2024 in Kathmandu focuses on IT growth and future plans

KATHMANDU, July 22: The Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO) held its Plenary Meeting in Kathmandu on July 13, 2024, uniting representatives from member organizations across Asia and Oceania to discuss IT industry growth, awards, and plans for the organization's 40th anniversary.

During the meeting, ASOCIO President Dr Brian Shen committed to promoting Nepal's IT industry through a comprehensive policy framework, resource sharing, and investment support. CAN Federation President Ranjeet Kumar Poddar emphasized the summit's significance for Nepal's IT community, aiming to inspire innovation and collaboration within the sector.

Similarly, Nawaraj Kunwar, ASOCIO Summit Coordinator and Immediate Past President (IPP) of CAN Federation, highlighted the summit as a showcase of Nepal's potential in the IT industry. Chiranjibi Adhikari, General Secretary of the Federation of Computer Association Nepal, underscored Nepal's potential as an outsourcing hub, focusing on opportunities in Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and IT services.

The meeting reported ASOCIO's strong financial health, with membership income exceeding budget targets. A $44,000 budget request was proposed to commemorate ASOCIO's 40th anniversary with a coffee table book and celebratory events.

Committee reports included new categories for the 2024 ASOCIO DX Awards and updates from various sectors. Likewise, the Australian Joint Committee for Computing in Asia (AJCCA) was introduced as a new Global Partner.

The summit also announced the Smart City Summit Nepal 2025, scheduled for May 2, 2025, in Kathmandu, focusing on urban development through technology. The event will feature sessions on smart city innovations, urban challenges, and networking opportunities, aiming to build a sustainable future for Nepal's cities.
