A group of party members led by FSPN Chairman Ashok Rai reached the commission"s office at Kantipath to register the party on Monday. [break]
Rai said they registered the party as they were not against election in principle though the party has announced to boycott the polls to be conducted by Khil Raj Regmi-led government.
The government and leaders from major political parties have been negotiating with the FSPN in a bid to bring the party on board the election process but the Rai-led party has been saying it wouldn"t participate in the election if the threshold provision and other proposed election laws are implemented.
The number of political parties that have registered at EC for CA election has reached 61 by Monday. The deadline for registration of parties at EC is expiring on Thursday.
The commission has made it mandatory for a new party to produce 10,000 signatures for registration at EC for election. Those who had presence in the previous CA needn"t produce signatures.
Altogether 54 political parties had participated in the previous CA polls. Of them, only 25 had managed to secure seat in the legislature. By the time the House was dissolved on May 27 last year, the number of political parties represented in the CA had reached 33 as various political parties had split into two or more parties.
Another major agitating political party, Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist, however, hasn"t registered at the commission.
