As demonstration intensifies after murder of a minor, Mahottari DAO imposes curfew in Bardibas

MAHOTTARI, Nov 25: Amid escalating violence following the ‘rape’ and murder of a minor in Mahottari district, the district administration office (DAO), Mahottari has enforced a curfew in Bardibas Municipality to bring the situation under its control.

The agitating locals have further intensified their protests in Bardibas after Buddhiraj Neupane of Bardibas-1, who was injured in police firing on Tuesday, breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the Grande International Hospital in Kathmandu.

A meeting of the district authorities held on Wednesday morning decided to impose the curfew in Bardibas. According to Krishna Bahadur Katuwal, chief district officer of Mahottari, the curfew which began at 9 AM today will remain in place until 6 AM on Thursday. Only five persons will be allowed to assemble in Bardibas-4 during the curfew period, Katuwal said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Buddhiraj Neupane alias Sanjaya had sustained injuries when police opened fire to disperse demonstrators at Bardibas Chowk. Sanjay had received a bullet in his thigh. He was immediately airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment and he passed away on Tuesday night.

Agitators have been staging demonstrations by burning tires at the major cross-roads in Bardibas. They have been staging a protest in Bardibas since Tuesday demanding action against the murderer of a six-year-old Gulbasha (Gulab Sah) Khatun, the daughter of Shahid Alam of Bardibas-14.

The minor had gone missing from the neighborhood of her house on Sunday evening. Her dead body was found dumped in a sack in a bush near her house on Monday. Police have arrested 26-year-old Arun Kumar Sah of Gaushala Municipality-5 on the charge of killing the girl.

The agitators have intensified their protests obstructing the highway and shutting down the local market since early this morning, .

Shyam Karki, who was also injured in the incident, has been undergoing treatment in Kathmandu.
