KATHMANDU, Feb 6: Urmila Aryal, Member of Parliament of the CPN (Maoist Center), has been unopposed for the post of Vice Speaker of the National Assembly.
During the registration of candidacy on Sunday for the election to be held today, she was unopposed as only her candidacy was filed for the position of vice president.
It is going to be announced that Aryal has been elected unopposed to the post of Vice President at the National Assembly meeting which will be held at 12 noon today. With the agreement of the UML and the Maoist Center, the Maoist Center got the post of Vice President. Nepali Congress has helped Aryal, who has become a candidate, to run unopposed without giving her a competitor.
Aryal registered her candidacy at the Lhotse Hall of Parliament House in New Baneshwar. Her name was proposed by Narayan Kaji Shrestha of the Maoist Center, Devendra Dahal of UML and independent lawmaker Khimlal Devkota.
Aryal, 66, whose permanent address is Birgunj Metropolitan City-23 Gandakchowk in Parsa, has been an MP in the National Assembly since February 2022. The post of Vice Chair fell vacant after the four-year tenure of Sashikala Dahal expired.
