Rekha, Komal recommended for local-level poll candidacies

KATHMANDU, April 17: As the countdown has already started for the local-level elections on May 14, the parties are working out to finalize the list of their candidates for the election.

The list, yet to be finalized from the top party leaders, includes some popular names from the entertainment sector of the country as well.

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) seems to grab the attention of the voters by recommending two most popular figures for the post of mayor and deputy-mayor. The party is almost set to file the candidacy of the newly elected central committee member and actress Rekha Thapa for the post of deputy-Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC). However, the party central office has to approve the final list, which will be done within one week, said deputy spokesperson Mohan Shrestha. 

Likewise, the district party office has recommended the name of another newly elected party central committee member and singer Komal Oli for the post of mayor of Tulsipur Municipality.

“The party is preparing to finalize the name of actress Rekha Thapa and singer Komal Oli. The party will also decide the candidacy of other artist in upcoming days”, said Shrestha.

Likewise the Nepali Congress (NC) is all set to forward the candidacy of music composer Deepak Gajmer for the post of chairperson of the ward of Dhulikhel Municipality whereas film producer Chiranjeevi Basnet is looking for the candidacy for the post of the chairperson of the ward in Inaruwa representing the NC.

Madhusudhan Pradhan of Nepal Film Association has been recommended for the chairperson of the ward from Ward number 21 of KMC. “Some of the artists are likely to contest for the upcoming local level election. However the party central office will finalize the list”, said Tirtha Thapa of the cultural wing of the NC.

Similarly, Brij Kishore Sahani, Nir Gagan Singh, Bir Bahadur Budhathoki ans Bhuwan Rijal have registered their name to contest from the CPN-UML  for the various posts of the local-level but the party still needs to stamp on it. “The party will confirm the name of the candidates in few days”, said Khagendra Rai of Cultural Union of the party.
