The competition was attended by 43 students from 21 schools who were scrawling away the Fewa Lake and its surrounding natural beauty on to their canvases.[break]
“There are a lot of very artistic students who have come to attend this event,” says Buddhi Gurung, a teacher at SOS and the organizer of the event.
“On-the-spot art is when we take students to a scenic location and ask them to copy what they see, exactly, onto the canvas. This helps students remember what they see easily,” he adds. SOS has been conducting the “On-the-spot Art Competition” annually for 23 years now through the initiation of Gurung.

The competition is organized annually on June 22, in remembrance of the founder of SOS, Hermann Miner.
The participants of the competition were given two hours to find a scene that they like and copy it on to their canvases. The judging panel included teachers, member secretary of Lalit Kala Campus and famous artists like Chetra Lal Kayastha, Lokprasad Gurung and Krishna Prasad Kafle.
After the judges evaluated the competing paintings, the first postion was declared to Adarsha Lal from Motherland Higher Secondary School.
He took home a cash prize of Rs 2000. Likewise, Dinesh Pujari from SOS Hermann Miner School bagged the second prize and Muskan Khadka also from the same was awarded the third. They were both awarded Rs 1700 and Rs 1000 respectively.
Various consolation prizes were also given to Abinaya Rana of Social Public High School, Avishek Pandey of Sisu Niketan Higher Secondary School and Dristi Gurung of Tops Higher Secondary School for their participation.
