Arrested in New Delhi, Devkumar Nepali brought to Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, Sept 29: Devkumar Nepali, 51, the chairman of the Image Savings and Credit Cooperative, who was arrested in New Delhi, India,  has been brought to Kathmandu.

KATHMANDU, Sept 29: Devkumar Nepali, 51, the chairman of the Image Savings and Credit Cooperative, who was arrested in New Delhi, India,  has been brought to Kathmandu.


Nepali, who is also the mayor of Dhorpatan Municipality in Baglung, was brought to Kathmandu on Saturday. Along with him, Om Bahadur Nepali, 58, also known as Om Prasad Darji, who is involved in the same cooperative fraud, was also brought to Kathmandu.

Both of them were absconding after the cooperative fraud case came to light. There were eight defendants in total along with Nepali in this cooperative case. A warrant for Nepali's arrest was issued on June 7, 2023, and a red notice was issued on January 24, 2024.


Both of the arrested individuals has been sent to the District Police Office in Baglung for legal action, according to SP Hobindra Bogati, spokesperson for the Central Investigation Bureau of the police.


The arrested Nepali is also the vice-chairman of the board of directors of Surya Darshan Cooperative in Pokhara.


They are accused of embezzling over Rs 1.5 billion. An investigation is underway into the embezzlement.
