Army officers thrash cop

PALPA, Dec 30: Three second lieutenants of Garud Dal Battalion on Wednesday afternoon severely beat up a traffic policeman on duty in Tansen. Kaman Singh Gurung, Sabin Thapa and Hari Prakash Shiwakoti, who riding a motorcycle (Ba 35 Pa 5316), thrashed Laxman Gyawali after the latter stopped them for violating traffic rules.



“When I stopped them, they hurled obscenities at me,” Gyawali said adding, “They started to punch me when protested.” The army trio also smashed Gyawali´s walkie-talkie.



A police team that reached the spot immediately after the incident took place and took the three under control. The district police will write to the Garud Dal Battalion, No 22 Briagde and the Office of the Division Commander, Pokhara demanding action against the trio, said the police. Battalion Commander of Garud Dal Bharat Chandra Gurung told Republica that the trio would be punished for the offence.
