Army inch closer to title

BUTWAL, Oct 30: Bhojaraj Ghimire´s extra-time goal steered the defending champions Nepal Army into the final of the 17th Tilottama Gold Cup Football Tournament being held in Butwal on Saturday. Army thrashed the Armed Police Force (APF) Club 1-0 in the first semifinal of the tournament.



Both the team could not score in the regulation time of the match. Ghimire emerged a hero for Army once again in the tournament and scored the winning goal in the dying minutes of the extra time to stun APF. [break]



Ghimire had scored the winning goal in the final of the 16th edition of the gold cup against Three Star Club.



APF dominated the first half of the match but were unable to continue the streak in the second half. Army goalkeeper Bikas Malla was adjudged the man-of-the-match.



Nepal Army will take on the winners of the semifinal between Samsung Jawalakhel and Himalayan Sherpa Club on Tuesday. Jawalakhel and Himalayan Sherpa will lock their horns on Sunday in the second semifinal of the match.



Despite the defeat, APF coach Dilkaji Gurung was happy with the team. "The boys played well, I´m satisfied with their performance," said Gurung.



A large number of armymen were present in the Siddhartha Stadium on Saturday to cheer for their departmental team.
