ILAM, April 21: The departmental team Armed Police Force has advanced into the quarterfinals of the ongoing fourth International Invitational Tuborg Mai Valley Gold Cup football tournament with a 3-1 win over Bangladesh’s Kawran Pragati Sangh on Friday.

In the second day of the tournament, Armed Police’s Yuvraj Khadka scored the first goal in the opening 10 minutes of the match as he utilized a pass from Shyam Nepali from inside the danger area. Armed Police added its second goal in the 35th minute beautifully converting his rebound shot into the back of the net in the second attempt after the first shot hit the post.

The first half ended 2-0 and just after three minutes of the restart, Armed Police’s Nabin Lama scored the third goal to put the result out of Kawran’s reach, considering that the winning team kept Kawran under pressure throughout the match.

Kawran got one back as Alamgarh scored from a header for the losing team in the 78th minute, but that wasn’t enough for Kawran and it lost in the pre-quarterfinals.

Both the teams got plenty of good chances throughout the match. Kawran’s goal scorer Alamgarh got a chance near the post in the first half, but could not utilize it. He also got another one in the second half, but again failed to convert it.

Armed Police’s Rup Bahadur Lama was named the man-of-the-match and was rewarded with Rs 10,000.

The departmental team will now take on Jhapa XI in the last eight match on April 24. CMG Sankata Club will face India’s Sikkim United on Saturday.
