The donation has been sought in the name of “ethnic rights and national liberation war”. This has come at a time when VDC secretaries are not even in a position to enter the villages owing to threats from several armed outfits. [break]
“We get letters from many such organizations seeking donations. We are now fed up of such threats,” Ram Kumar Yadav, central vice-chairman of VDC secretaries´ welfare protection center, told myrepublica.com.
The party has also sent such letters to VDCs in Morang, Sunsari, Udayapur, Ilam, and Bhojpur through post and warned of stern action against secretaries if they do not dole out money as demanded.
The secretaries have complained that various political parties and armed groups like Janatantrik Tarai Madhes Mukti Party (Jwala Singh), Akhil Tarai Mukti Morcha (Goit), Virus Killers and Madhesi Tigers have been demanding donations in one or the other pretext.
While 24 VDC secretaries have been killed in the past 12 years, hundreds have been kidnapped and released after paying heavy ransom amount.
The secretaries have claimed that they are unsafe. A declaration issued by the secretaries during the meeting stated that their life and property were unsafe.
The secretaries have demanded peace and security in their VDCs and have collectively urged all political parties and armed groups to stop terrorizing people.
