Archery, fencing's run end in Gwangju

KATHMANDU, July 7: Nepal's run in the archery and fencing ended on Tuesday in the 28th Summer Universiade being held in Gwangju, South Korea. In men's 70 m individual recurve of archery, Prakash Gurung of Nepal faced 6-0 defeat against Mongolian player in elimination round. In women's same event, Krishnamaya Shyangtan came up with mixed performance for Nepal.

She overcame Slovakian player 6-2 and faced 0-6 defeat at the hands of Mexican player. Meanwhile, Sandip Lama finished with four defeats and a win in the league round of fencing.

In the pool G matches, Sandip beat Brazilian player 5-4, and lost 3-5 against Italian player, 4-5 against Russian, 1-5 against Chinese and 2-5 against Hong Kong player. Nepali players are yet to compete in badminton, table tennis, swimming and taekwondo. The event to be played until July 14 will feature 13,000 players from 146 countries.
