Farmers especially those living far from the district headquarters could not get cartons to pack up their apples as a result of which they had to use rotten apples as fodders for their cattle.
"We used to get a cartoon for Rs 25 from District Agriculture Office last year. However, this year we could not get them. In the lack of cartons, apples have gone rotten," said Banch Bahadur Kami, an apple farmer, of Chhayanath Rara Municipality-10.
According to sources at the District Agriculture Office, over 300 cartons have been destroyed.
The total cost of a carton is around Rs 300 including transport expenses.
