An APF team from Baidyanath Battalion recovered the bullets and spare parts hidden in a cave in five plastic sacks, according to Inspector Bharat Kunwar. [break]
The recovered items include 286 bullets of SMG and pistols, 519 bullets of SLR rifle, 1937 bullets that can be used for INSAS and M-16 rifles.
According Kunwar, the APF team likewise recovered 23 magazines of INSAS rifle, 57 magazines of SLR, six of LMG and 27 magazines of M-16 rifles. The police team also found 7 magazines of SMG hidden in the cave.
APF Deputy Inspector General Komal Basnet said they had recovered spare parts and bullets of sophisticated weapon from the same rivulets in the past also. He said that the bullets and spare parts were recovered following a tip-off.
Basnet said no one has been arrested. "It is not known who hid them and where they were brought from. They were found hidden in a cave," he said.
Maoist Kailai district Chairman Hari Gyawali admitted that some weapons were kept outside when the Maoist combatants were sent to cantonments. He hinted that the ammunition could have been recovered based on the tip-off given by the cadres close to establishment faction in the party.
