APF lawn tennis kicks off

KATHMANDU, Jan 27: Ninth Sahabir Memorial Open Lawn Tennis Tournament organized by Armed Police Force (APF) has kicked off on Thursday. In the inaugural matches of men’s singles event played at Satdobato Tennis Court, Renjan Lama, Saksham Karki, Samyak Bahadur Bajracharya and Kumar Adhikari emerged victorious.

Renjan overcame the challenge of Saurabh Raj Pandey 6-0, 6-0 while Saksham defeated Prabesh Panta 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. Similarly, Samyak registered 6-0, 6-2 victory over Abhinabh Acharya and Kumar edged past Amit Bista 6-0, 6-1.


In other matches of the same event, Pankaj Sharma and Pradip Khadka defeated Nishan Shrestha and Harsha Wardan Chand with the score-line of 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-4 respectively. Similarly, Aarabh Samrat Hada defeated Santosh Khatri 6-1, 6-2. Likewise, Jitendra Pariyar registered double-bagel win over Adit Subedi and Aabhash Malla beat Nischal Adhikari with the same scoreline. 


Meanwhile in the women’s singles event, Sawarni Shrestha overcame Prakriti Shrestha 6-2, 6-2 while Lumu Tshering Lama edged past Surabhi Katwal 6-0, 6-0. In another match of the same event, Sneha Yadav beat Subhangi Laxmi Shah 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. 


Similarly, in the men’s 45 plus veteran’s singles matches played at APF’s tennis court, Halchowk, Umesh Shahi defeated Rameshwar Thapa 1-6, 7-5, 10-9 while Rajendra Shrestha enjoyed walkover in the same event. In the inter governmental services’ men’s singles event, Babi Chand and Bikash Pandey emerged victorious as they beat Tribhuvan Bista and Ishwar Lohaniya. Amulya Singh and Kailash Gurung enjoyed walkover in the same event. Earlier AIGP Krishna Kumar Tamang inaugurated the tournament at Halchowk.
