APF clinch cricket title

JHAPA, March 16: Armed Police Force (APF) Club clinched the trophy of Fourth Binesh Verma Memorial One Day Cricket Tournament on Tuesday defeating Jhapa XI by seven wickets in Bhadrapur, Jhapa.



This is the second win of APF in three months. APF had earlier clinched the title of Madan Bhandari Memorial Trophy in Kathmandu.[break]



Winning the toss, Jhapa opted to bat first in the 40 overs match and scored only 88 runs in 35.1 overs. Paras Khadka and Shakti Gauchan played key roles to restrict Jhapa in the low total. Khadka bagged three wickets in his seven-over spell conceding 14 runs while Gauchan also took three wickets in eight overs giving away 12 runs.



Santosh Baral was the highest scorer for Jhapa with 16 runs off 26 balls.



APF met the target in just 19.1 overs losing three wickets. Subash Khakurel scored 42 runs off 49 balls with six boundaries. Shard Veswakar hit 26 off 40 balls and skipper Khadka was not out in 13 runs off five deliveries. Suresh Guragain and Nirjal Chhetri each took a wicket of APF. Khadka was adjudged the man-of-the-match for his all-round performance in the final.



With the win, APF bagged a purse of Rs 40, 000 while Jhapa had to settle for Rs 25, 000. Sunny Pun of Jhapa received the best batsman award while Amrit Bhattarai was named the best bowler. Both of them received Rs 2, 500. Subash Khakurel of APF bagged the man-of-the-series award and also a purse of Rs 2, 500.
