Apex Court stays lieutenant colonels promotion to colonel

KATHMANDU, April 1: Supreme Court on Monday stayed the Nepal Army decision to promote 16 lieutenant colonels to colonel. A single bench of Justice Girish Chandra Lal issued the order.



The court has also called both defendants and plaintiffs for Wednesday to discuss whether the interim order should be continued or not. [break]



Following the promotions of 16 lieutenant colonels, eight lieutenant colonels including Lieutenant colonel Sampat Kumar Aryal had filed a writ petition saying that the committee to recommend names for promotions was unfair and unacceptable.



Meanwhile, the Nepal Army in a press meet on Thursday defended the promotions maintaining that the selection was done under new rules which were scientific and transparent.
