Student organizations affiliated with the CPN (Revolutionary Maoist), CPN (Majority) aligned ANNISU-R, and CPN (Masal) stated that the National Unity Conference Organizing Committee meeting held on June 11-12 declared this struggle campaign.
Speaking at the press conference, Mahesh Shrestha, coordinator of ANNISU-R said that they have declared the struggle because the government is unofficially attempting to privatize education. He stated that education is being commercialized against the constitution and laws. He said, “Many people in the government own private colleges and schools, and they have made education expensive and inaccessible to the general public as a business to exploit them. Now, we will fight a decisive battle against this.”
Member of the organization, Nabin Khadka, accused that government educational institutions have been turned into recruitment centers for their own cadres, while private institutions have become vessels to earn money. Khadka demanded the immediate implementation of the decision to issue No Objection Certificates (NOCs) only after the bachelor’s level, without granting them at the plus-two level.
Another office bearer of the student wing, Deepak Bista, stated that the environment that dries up students in government and community campuses while encouraging private and foreign-affiliated colleges should come to an end.
Likewise, Netra Shahi warned that corruption and the influence of brokers have increased in the education sector of the country, and they will launch a strong struggle against them to end this.
