Both men advanced to the U.S. Open quarterfinals on Monday and could meet in the semifinals. Their Davis Cup participation could depend on what happens in New York.
The defending champion British team also includes Kyle Edmund and Dan Evans, who achieved breakthroughs at the U.S. Open. Edmund reached the fourth round at a Grand Slam for the first time, while Evans got to the third round.
The squad also has doubles specialists Jamie Murray and Dominic Inglot.
The winning side will face either Croatia or France in the final.
