All the necessary arrangements have been made and the stage is ready for the Mahashivaratri festival, said Prabesh Ram Bhandari, Coordinator of the Festival Management Main Committee and the Cleaning Sub-committee.
Bhandari said that works on cleaning the Pashupatinath area have been carried out vigorously and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, police and volunteers have cleaned the Bagmati River.Plastic bags and use of ploastic has been banned in the area. Decoration works are in final stage, he said.Bhandari said that the provision of allowing devotees to pay homage at the temple by paying a fee of Rs, 1,000 is continued this time also and some 3,500 people are expected to pay homage through this provision.
Three routes leading up to the temple have been fixed for the devotees to fall in line for paying homage. The routes are: the Gaushala route passing through Bankali, the Chabahil route passing through Mitrapark and the Sifal route passing through Jaya Bageshwari. Bhandari said this time arrangements have been made under which the devotees would not be stopped from paying obeisance at the time the Head of State is paying homage at the temple.According to him, devotees can pay homage at the temple the whole day and night on the day of Shivaratri.
On the day of Shivaratri, the Nepalese Army will shower petals in the Pashupatinath area from helicopter. Similarly, like in previous years a temporary health camp is to be conducted while Nepal Telecom will keep a separate tower in the area for facilitating communication. Bhandari said that some 1,300 ascetics and Sadhus from places outside the capital and abroad have already arrived for the Festival.
