All-APF final in men's badminton

KATHMANDU, Feb 3: The men´s singles final of 9th Nationwide Krishna Mohan Memorial Open Badminton Championship will be an all-Armed Police Force (APF) affair as both Deepesh Dhami and Ratnajeet Tamang of the host APF entered the final winning their respective semifinal matches on Sunday at the APF covered hall in Halchowk.



No 2 Dhami edged past No 1 player Bikash Shrestha of Bhojpur 21-16, 18-21, 22-20. Dhami had defeated Shrestha 21-14, 18-21, 21-17 in the Pushpalal Ranking Badminton Tournament as well. In the other semifinal, Tamang defeated Sajan Krishna Tamrakar of Nepal Police Club 21-14, 21-14 in straight sets.[break]



Apart from the men´s singles, Dhami also secured berth in the final of U-17 singles. Dhami defeated Sawan Shrestha of Sunsari 21-15, 21-15 to set up a title clash with his colleague Suman Limbu who eased past Santosh Khadka of Sunsari 21-18, 21-18 in the semifinal.



APF´s Sabina Panthi and Nepal Army Club´s Saradevi Tamang advanced into the girl´s singles final. Panthi ousted her colleague Shiksha Shrestha 21-10, 21-14 and Saradevi beat her younger sister Nangsaldevi of the host APF 21-15, 21-14.



Shreya Pradhan of Nepal Army Club and Shiksha Shrestha of APF entered the final of U-17 girls´ singles. Pradhan eased past Megha Chand of Kanchanpur 21-13, 21-10 and Shrestha defeated Ganga Bishta of Kanchanpur 21-7, 21-6.



In the men´s doubles section, Ratnajeet Tamang and Bishal Pradhan´s pair of APF will face Pankaj Chand and Indra Mehata´s pair of APF in the final. In the women´s doubles, Nangsaldevi Tamang and Puja Shrestha´s pair of APF set up a final date with APF´s Sabina Panthi and Samjhana Khaling.



Adhikari, Pariyar win lawn tennis doubles

Kumar Adhikari and Jeetendra Pariyar´s pair on Sunday clinched the men´s doubles title during the Fifth APF Open Lawn Tennis Championship being held at the APF covered hall in Halchowk. Adhikari and Pariyar´s pair registered a straight sets 7-6, 6-0 win over Kamal Bhandari and Milan Rokaya´s pair.



Shree Ram Magar and Malika Rana´s pair won the mixed doubles title crushing Rajesh Chhetri and Mayanka Rana´s pair 6-1, 6-2.



In the veterans´ singles above 35 years age category, Manoj Bikram Shah defeated Tribhuvan Bista 6-1, 6-4, Rohit Sunuwar saw off Umesh Shah 6-2, 7-5, Durga Bahadur Kunwar beat Sunil Giri 6-1, 6-1, and Dharma Singh Lamichhane overcame Anuj Arora 6-2, 6-1 to secure quarterfinal berths.



In the veterans´ above 45 years age category, Krishna Raj Ghale defeated Raju Shrestha 6-3, 6-0 and Uttam Lama defeated Jeevan Ghimire 6-1, 7-6 to reach the semifinals.
