SINDHULI, July 2: An airport is to be constructed at Baghmara-Sisneri that is located between Kamalamai municipality ward number 8 and 10 in Sindhuli.

Locals are confident that the airport will be constructed as soon as the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) Babarmahal Kathmandu starts assessing the environmental impact of the proposed Kamalamai Airport project site. They are excited that the local airport is being constructed after the CAAN has published a public notice regarding the zoning of the Kamalamai Airport Project and prepared an environmental impact assessment report.

According to CAAN, the airport will be constructed in an area of 45.05 hectares of land near the bank of Kamala River between Karkare and Sisneri of Kamalamai Municipality-8. The work of air condition assessment has been taken forward for the construction of airport runway, taxi route, apron, airport terminal, staff quarters and other structures.

According to Samridhi Shrestha, Deputy Manager of CAAN, the DPR has been prepared for the construction of Kamalmai Airport and the environmental impact assessment is underway. Shrestha said that the construction work of the airport will start after the first environmental impact assessment is completed.

The CAAN said a 1,600-meter-long and 30-meter-wide runway will be constructed for the airport. The construction site of the airport is connected to the BP Highway at a distance of about 12 kilometers from Madhi (headquarter of Sindhuli) and six kilometers from Bhiman Bazaar.
