KATHMANDU, Jan 21: Tribhuvan International Airport has been temporarily closed in anticipation of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's return to Nepal. Prime Minister Dahal, who is arriving in Kathmandu from Doha, is causing a brief halt in the airport's operations, with landings being suspended for half an hour to accommodate his arrival.
Prime Minister Dahal is returning after concluding his visit to Uganda. He is scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu at 9 AM via Qatar Airways.
TIA to remain closed for 10 hours a day starting today
Similarly, HIM 564, a Himalaya Airlines flight from Doha, is currently on hold, while the Qatar Airways flight carrying the Prime Minister is preparing to land.
The temporary suspension of other aircraft operations is due to the VVIP status of the Prime Minister's flight, as confirmed by airport sources. The airport authorities have issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) to inform relevant parties of these temporary changes.
