KATHMANDU, Oct 3: CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal briefed the party about his recent visit to the US to attend the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and the subsequent official visit to China.

In a meeting of the party office-bearers held on Tuesday, Chairman Dahal, who is also the prime minister, said Nepal's participation in the UNGA had helped promote Nepal's identity globally. "Through Nepal's participation in the UN mega event, the world community was able to understand Nepal better."

Talking about his visit to the northern neighbor, Dahal said bilateral agreements and understandings reached with China during the visit carry long-term significance for Nepal's development, according to the party’s Vice Chairman and Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota. "The meeting with the UN general secretary and other meetings held on the sidelines of the event were important," PM Dahal was quoted as saying in the meeting.

PM Dahal is learnt to have described the agreement for cooperation between the National Planning Commission and China's National Development and Reform Commission on the development of cross-border transmission lines and agriculture and science technology as important ones.

The meeting instructed the party leaders and cadres to contribute to making the 'transformation campaign' launched by the party on September 2 a success. Dahal had left for the US on September 16 to address the UNGA in New York. He had directly embarked on a China visit from there, beginning September 23. He returned home on September 30.
