Agni launches Mahindra XUV 500

KATHMANDU, March 25: Agni Incorporated has launched Mahindra´s new global sport utility vehicle XUV 500 in the Nepali market. On the occasion, the company also inaugurated its new showroom and service center operated by Balazu Auto Works.



Three models of XUV 500 -- W6 2WD, W8 2WD and W8 AWD (all wheel drive) - are available in the market.[break]



Pradeep Kumar of Mahindra & Mahindra, Suraj Vaidya, President of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and Cabinet Shrestha, managing director of Agni Incorporated jointly inaugurated the new showroom and launched the car amid a function on Monday.



Speaking on the occasion, Kumar said XUV 500 is Mahindra´s first global SUV that has been completely designed and developed around the global customers, with extensive product validation and testing done across Europe, Australia and South Africa. “Nepal is a very important market for us and I am confident that XUV 500 will create a brand new category in the premium SUV segment in the Nepali market,” he added.

The XUV 500 is powered by a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine which delivers maximum power of 140 bhp and maximum torque of 330 Nm. “The engine is meshed with a 6-speed transmission and the 5th generation variable geometry turbocharger which takes the XUV500 from 0-60 km per hour in a mere 5.4 seconds,” Agni Incorporated said in a statement.



The XUV 500 provides mileage of 15.1 km per liter as per Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) certification. It features a sporty suspension with McPherson strut up at the front and independent multi-link suspension at the rear.



The car has a number of infotainment features like 6-inch touch screen system with DVD player, MP3, FM, Bluesense technology, full iPod connectivity and six speakers.



“Bluesense is the mobile application developed for top end XUV that allows the driver to see vital information related to climate control, tire pressure monitoring system, fuel statistics and access phone book in the mobile as well as make and receive calls,” the statement added.



Besides, XUV 500 has other features like fully automatic climate control, laptop and mobile charging points, inbuilt laptop holder, intelligent reverse park assist system displayed on the screen, voice commands, cruise and audio control on steering wheel, and individual reading lamps, among others.



The monocoque design, dual airbags both for the driver and the front passenger, side and curtain airbags along with side impact ensures the safety of the driver and passengers. Further more, all disc brakes with ABS and EBD ensure efficient braking of the SUV, the statement added.



“We are glad to announce launch of the award winning SUV that offers perfect styling, sophisticated technology, advanced safety features, comfort and convenience in the Nepali market,” said Shrestha.



The car is available in seven different colors like Satin White, Tuscan Red, Opulent Purple, Neptune Blue, Moondust Silver, Volcano Black and Dolphin Grey.



The company has fixed the ex-showroom price for Kathmandu at Rs 5.3 million (W6 2WD), Rs 5.85 million (W8 2WD) and Rs 6.15 million for (W8 AWD).
