Agitating teachers reach seven-point agreement with govt; withdraw protest

KATHMANDU, Sept 22: The agitating teachers have reached a seven-point agreement with the government regarding the School Education Bill-2080 BS.


Minister for Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma said that both sides agreed to address the demands of the teachers from the Parliament, considering the supremacy of the parliament. She said that along with the agreement, the Nepal Teachers’ Federation (NTF) has withdrawn its protest. Sharma, who is also the spokesperson for the government, said that the agitating teachers agreed to the government’s proposal and ended their strike that had paralyzed the capital for the last few days.

“Upholding the sovereignty of the Parliament, it has been agreed to proceed with the process in accordance with the existing law on the parliamentary system, practice and operation of the Federal Parliament to change some of the provisions in the bill to amend and unify the School Education Bill,” said Minister Sharma.
